The Lost Draft: The Place Where Creativity Meets Coffee

It was a beautiful summer day, and I was feeling bored. I thought of what I could do and realized it’s been a while since I went to a cafe to work on poetry and drink a yummy cup of matcha. I went on Beli to look for a place and found The Lost Draft, a really cute cafe in SoHo. I decided I'd go there, and luckily for NYU students, it’s around a half-hour walk away from Washington Square Park. I did not realize at the time, but it’s also right next to NYU’s Broome Street Residence Hall. You can also take the No. 6 train at the nearby Spring St station. Its physical entrance is a bit hidden, so make sure you look carefully when you try to find it.

When I arrived, I ordered my usual lavender matcha, and it was so flavorful and smooth, just like matcha should be. Their matcha is really, really, really delicious. Personally, I don’t like when my matcha is too milky or when I can barely taste the matcha because there is an overpowering taste of the flavor syrup. However, the lavender flavor and the matcha in this drink balanced each other out perfectly. During my second visit to the cafe, I tried the pepper and feta egg bites as a snack. I loved the balance of the feta and the pepper, it made for an excellent combination. I will admit it is a bit pricey, but still delicious and worth a try.

Beyond the delicious matcha and food, the lighting and open concept design makes The Lost Draft’s ambiance vibrant and welcoming. It also has a large seating area with plenty of room for people. Two of the most unique aspects of the store are the poems by the windowsill and the chalkboard near the bathroom where you can take a piece of chalk to write a message. The chalkboard is especially sweet because, in a way, you can leave a piece of yourself at the cafe.

This is genuinely one place that cannot be missed. It’s the perfect spot to get some work done, write in a journal, or grab coffee with a friend. It has plenty of seating, so there is a lot of availability for people to come and hang out. One thing I really liked about this cafe was that it included a quiet room meant for one person to fit. It also has a separate space for more private work if you need a space to focus. That way, if you don’t want to be around people talking, you can still get your work done, and people can talk to one another without worrying about bothering those who are working.

Overall, this cafe is great for studying, working, writing, getting a sweet treat, a drink pick-me-up, or a cafe date with friends. It took me around 25 minutes from the Palladium Residence Hall, but you can also take the Downtown No. 6 train if you don’t want to walk. It is incredibly convenient, especially for people who live in Broome Street, and the drinks are all so yummy!
